Interview Zen Documentation

Interview Zen is a desktop application for conducting fair, transparent technical interviews. Candidates write code in a real editor with autocomplete, while the app quietly verifies interview integrity in the background. No video calls, no screen shares with an interviewer watching — just you, a code editor, and the problems in front of you.

This documentation covers everything you need to know, whether you're a candidate preparing for an interview or a manager setting one up.

  • For Candidates — Installing the app, what to expect, what's monitored, your privacy rights
  • For Managers — Creating tests, inviting candidates, reviewing results, understanding proctoring data
  • Troubleshooting — Permission issues, disconnects, common fixes
  • System Requirements — Supported operating systems, hardware, and network needs

How It Works

  1. A manager creates a coding test and sends you an invitation email
  2. You download the Interview Zen app and enter your interview access code
  3. The app walks you through granting permissions (camera, screen recording)
  4. You complete the coding questions in a full-featured editor with syntax highlighting and autocomplete
  5. The app records evidence in the background — periodic screenshots, webcam photos, and app usage
  6. When you're done, your answers and proctoring data are available for the manager to review

The entire setup takes about five minutes. The app handles everything automatically — there's nothing to configure and no buttons to press beyond entering your code and answering questions.
